How the SkillBridge Program Works
The VetComm SkillBridge F3USA Cybersecurity Program powered by Fusion Cyber is designed to guide you through every stage of your transition — from recruitment to career placement. Our team provides hands-on training, mentorship, and personalized support to help you launch a high-demand cybersecurity career before your transition from active duty.
Step 1:
Recruitment & Application Support
Connect with our recruiters to receive individualized guidance through your application process and command approval. We’ll support you every step of the way to ensure a smooth start to your journey.
Step 2:
Technical Instruction
Participate in 10 weeks of live, instructor-led cybersecurity training covering Security+, Linux+, and Splunk Core certifications, and more. Build the foundational skills and confidence needed to enter the cybersecurity workforce.
Step 3:
Workforce Preparation
Participate in weekly seminar-style sessions focused on career readiness, leadership development, and networking with corporate partners. Learn how to navigate your transition and stand out to employers.
Step 4:
Career Coaching & Placement
Work one-on-one with our career coaches to refine your resume, practice mock interviews, and connect with cybersecurity employers. We’ll help you position your military experience for long-term career success.

SkillBridge allows you to prepare for the day you leave the service. It provides an internship or educational experience that equips you for your next career. This is not an entitlement — it is a privilege. You must request it through your TAP office and your commanding officer, and once approved, it allows you to retain your pay, housing, medical coverage, and all other military benefits while you train and gain the skills needed for your civilian career.
Out of roughly 200,000 service members who separate each year, only about 44,000 are approved for SkillBridge. That number varies depending on the command and its deployment cycle. Preparing for your career before you separate is always better than waiting until after. Beyond missing out on salary, there’s the stress of unemployment and the pressure of finding work quickly. The best time to look for a job is while you’re still employed — and that’s why the SkillBridge program comes highly recommended.

Active-duty service members within their final 180 days of service and who obtain command approval are eligible. Open to all service members, regardless of rank or branch — if you’re within your final 180 days of active duty, this opportunity is for you.
No. The program is completely free for eligible, command-approved service members. Participants continue to receive full military pay and benefits while enrolled.
Yes. With command approval, SkillBridge is considered permissive duty. Service members remain on active duty and continue to receive their military pay, housing allowance, and benefits throughout the program. (Check your branch-specific SkillBridge policy for details.)
The VetComm SkillBridge F3USA Cybersecurity Program powered by Fusion Cyber runs for 10 weeks, providing full-time, hands-on training.
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday: 8-hour days focused on technical cybersecurity instruction through live teaching, interactive labs, and guided certification prep.
Thursday: 8-hour Workforce Preparation (WFP) day dedicated to career readiness, transition support, and civilian integration.
Each WFP Thursday teaches essential skills to help you thrive both professionally and personally after service, including:
- Resume writing and LinkedIn optimization
- Interview preparation and mock interviews
- Civilian workplace culture and communication
- Leadership, emotional intelligence, and adaptability
- Financial literacy and wellness during transition
This rhythm ensures a balance between technical mastery and personal development — the foundation of our “Left of Boom” approach: preparing service members before crisis, not after.
Students are prepared to earn:
- CompTIA Security+ — foundational cybersecurity certification.
- CompTIA Linux+ — hands-on Linux administration and system management.
- Splunk — data analytics and SIEM expertise.

The VetComm SkillBridge F3USA Cybersecurity Program uses Fusion Cyber’s AI-powered learning platform, a next-generation system that adapts to your progress and learning style. It provides:

Workforce Preparation Thursdays bridge the gap between military service and civilian success. Each week focuses on a key area of growth, such as:

- Stress management, time management, and emotional wellness
You’ll also connect with employer partners, guest speakers, and F3USA alumni who have successfully transitioned into cybersecurity roles.
Every student receives personalized coaching from our Military Career Placement team — professionals dedicated to helping you translate your service experience into competitive civilian job opportunities.
Career coaching includes:
- 1-on-1 guidance in defining your professional goals
- Resume and LinkedIn optimization
- Mock interviews and salary negotiation strategies
- Direct introductions to cybersecurity employers
Our strong partnerships across defense, federal, and private sectors result in consistent job placements, with many graduates receiving offers before completing the program.
Our leadership team has trained over 500 SkillBridge students, achieving an 80% job placement rate into full-time cybersecurity roles across the government, defense, and private sectors.

Transition doesn’t end at employment. Our VA Claims specialists provide personalized, one-on-one assistance to help service members understand their benefits, gather documentation, and file claims accurately.
